Let’s get started!

What is meant by nursery education?

Nursery education is one of the most important elements in early childhood development. A nursery is a place where early childcare is visible under a more firm platform.

This educational platform is there to ensure the provision of a safe and satisfactory atmosphere to let the children feel a proper learning exposure at their tender age.

This is also known as or can be explained as preschool education, kindergarten education, or early childhood education.

  • History

Before finding the answer to the question “is nursery education important”; it is essential to pay attention to history. The history of nursery education runs back to the 70th century where Alsatian Lutheran, the pastor of Waldersbach, founded the 1st infant school for kids in 1976 for the kids of parents who worked in the fields.

This center aimed to provide care and instructions for the kids. This trend spread around Europe and gradually developed by adding more values.

The 20th century can be named as the golden century of the development of early childhood education, where many educationists contributed by finding and recognizing valuable concepts and theories.

  • Teaching-learning style

It is important to know that nursery kids are not expected to sit all day glued to their chairs. They are very dynamic and active, where they tend to move very actively, exploring and investigating new knowledge.

In this context, proper tasks are performed through informal activities. For example, the child may attempt to hold the pencil properly, but he or she may not do that in a way the adults expect him or her to do so.

Drawing pictures on the walls and pavements, coloring on the walls, desks, and other smooth surfaces may be somewhat irritating for adults but quite enjoyable for children. Let them feel the magic of learning.

Nursery education is not there to provide full academic reading material-based education; it is a place to feel learning through experience.

  • Authority

Nursery education is given by private businesses, government authorities, and voluntary organizations, etc.

The institution which gives nursery education can be set up with a few students, or that institution can be a platform with a high number of children, which is nearly 150 in number.

Almost every country in the world has to implement standards, rules, and regulations to control the institutions that provide early childhood education.

What age is suitable for nursery education?

If someone raises the question, is nursery education important? What will be your answer? You might say that some kids are too young to get that education, or some kids are too old to get that education even though it is important.

So let’s look at what is the most suitable age for a child to get him or herself into nursery education.

It is said that nursery education focuses on providing early childhood education for kids who are between three to five years old. This is just the basic situation concerning the most suitable age, and thus it may vary from country to country due to the numerous national differences and educational practices.

But the childcare services which we can expect from some nursery schools provide that childcare from six months up to five years. Below I have categorized nursery education by age groups.

  • 6 – 12 months

Once you see the title, sometimes, you might wonder who sends their kids to a nursery at this early age. But don’t be surprised, there are so many parents.

Sending your kid to a nursery at this age is not offensive as far as you can make sure that the baby gets enough personal attention. If you have decided to find a nursery for your baby, it is essential to check if the center has enough staff, good enough space and if the kid is separated from older kids.

Although this is an easy option for working parents, many research studies have found that babies who have been to the nurseries at a pretty young age face frustration and anger issues and seek attention when they get old.

  • 1 – 3 Years

Most parents are likely to send their kids to daycare centers at this age. Due to the busy schedules of the parents, this is the most convenient option for many parents as they have to pay a relatively low cost for this option.

If you are going to hire a nanny for your parents, it would cost more than sending the kid to daycare or an early childhood education center. This type of center mostly accepts the kids who are potty trained.

Although there is no particular curriculum, most of the centers follow some kind of daily routine that includes educational activities. If you are a working parent, this is a good option to provide care for your toddler.

  • Above 3 years

When we discuss the question, is nursery education important; this age group is crucial. The early childhood education that a kid gets at this age has a huge impact on their development.

Most of the kids start going to the nursery at this age. As we all know, this age group is supposed to get ready for primary education and must follow a curriculum.

Is nursery full-time education?

Unlike schools or other formal educational institutions, a nursery being a full-time education depends on its context. It may provide full-time education if it provides childcare facilities, whereas normal nursery school doesn’t count with full-time education.

Even though they are full-time or part-time, they provide skill improvement, literacy enhancements for children.

Since the nursery provides a more flexible service, parents have the choice of starting and ending times.

Although this is a common fact, most nursery schools encourage the parents to respect the school’s starting and ending times. This will help the kids to get along with the system of the school and socialize.

Due to the busy schedule of the parents, most nursery schools provide pre-care and aftercare for the convenience of the parents.

In that case, nursery education turns to full-time education from 8 am to 6 pm as the teachers, assistants, and caregivers organize the educational activities throughout the time.

Why is nursery education important?

Are you wondering about the fact that is nursery education is important for children as most people turn out with the false belief that it does not have that much importance? Nursery education is important in numerous ways and various aspects.

1. Act as the major footstep towards the formal education

Nursery education links the kid with primary education. The basic educational skills such as understanding numerals, vocabulary, and alphabet identification and language collaboration skills get developed at a very elementary level by being supportive assets towards formal education.

Through this, children get the chance to develop their capabilities and capacities to reach advancements in their future educational aspects.

2. Make the child socially and emotionally independent

This can be identified as a good answer for the question, is nursery education important. It is important as it helps kids to be socially and emotionally independent. Not like in a domestic home environment, the spoon-feeding scenario will not happen in the nursery.

They learn to make independent decisions even if they are to perform minor tasks. Going to the washroom alone, playing with the toys during playtime are some such independent actions that are performed under the guidance of the elders.

When performing those independent decisions, they are taught to be collaborative with others. We all know that all children are not equal. Some children may be differently-abled who need someone’s help all the time.

By making the children socially and emotionally independent, the nurseries are teaching them to be empathetic towards others and set the mind of the children that every individual should help each other without expecting anything in return.

3. Uplifting the talents and skills

Under a professional staff, it would be beneficial for your child to trace his or her talents at a very standardized pace. You might never know that your kid is possessing hidden but valuable talents.

Nursery education is the ideal platform where your kid can showcase those hidden talents for a good cause.

It may be dancing, singing, playing music, acting, painting, and even acting; no matter what that talent is, the professional staff in the nursery knows very well how to make a positive difference in the child through that.

When speaking about the skills, it is very important for the child to learn language skills to develop their literacy skills. Through the development of literacy, the children can improve their communication skills to a great extent.

Furthermore, that will be beneficial for them to grab new knowledge with much confidence and accuracy. Presentation skills, organization skills, and leadership skills are some other skills that are developed through nursery education.

4. To render encouragement towards physical growth

Even though children are more dynamic and active, physical growth is encouraged through nursery education.

Apart from the usual playtime children will have the chance to engage in various sports and that would enhance their physical growth.

5. It helps for the brain development

90% of the child’s brain development happens before they land on to the age of 5 years. It does not develop itself. It needs certain stimulations towards a successful development process.

Nursery education in this regard can be identified as the prime step which stimulates this development. Through this simple educational exposure, a vast difference can be made to a child.

Some activities such as group activities, mortar skill development activities such as engaging in handicrafts, entertaining activities such as in-class funny learning games would help the child develop his or her capacities in learning.

The teeny tiny steps that are stepped with the nursery education would prove a good early child care knowledge-grabbing chance for the child. The previous factors of importance also discussed how nursery education might impact the development of the child.

Don’t these facts seem so fruitful? Don’t you think that the question is nursery education important and has a definite big YES as its answer?  Your child would not gain that much exposure by staying idle at home.

He or she may get only a family bounded exposure, not a useful social aspect when leading a life in society.

Conclusion

Let me end the article with a short overview. Are you still in a doubtful situation thinking is nursery education important? Do you want your child to have a firm foundation? Yes, a nursery education can provide you with those aspects.

I think you got to know that nursery education is not a waste of time for your kids, and it proves to be an investment towards the betterment of your child’s future. This education marks the difference between an exceptional child and an average child.
